Chapter Three: The Penn (the Quill), the Scroll, and the Parchment

The Jews and the Christians are often referred to in the context of the Abrahamic faith as the "people of the book," which underscores the importance of the text or the Word in Jewish and Christian beliefs, achieved as the means by which God made his covenant with his people through the mighty power of the written word. In Judaism particularly, the central text is called the Torah, while in the Christian tradition it is the compilation of different books written by different authors (whose thoughts were inspired by the Holy Spirit) in the complete synthesis of the Messianic history known in the canonical act as the Holy Bible. The Catholic Church claims to have canonized the complete set of books in their version of the compilation compared to what the Protestant (or "reformed") Churches have been using since the start of the era of the Counter-Reformation.

For the Jewish tradition, writing a Torah is considered a very religious act. First of all, a Torah must be handwritten by a Scribe to be considered "Kosher," in accordance to the prescription of Mosaic Law. The Scribe is a specially trained individual knowledgable in the laws governing the proper writing and assembling of a scroll. According to the Talmud, these scholars would count each letter of the Torah to meet the specific requirements needed in the actual writing on the parchment to be used.

The materials utilized for creating these sacred items were restricted as well. The parchment to be used in the writing must have come from the skin of a kosher animal. The Scribe is required to mix a special ink for the actual handwriting while the writing tool to be used is a Quill, usually made from a turkey feather. He also uses a reed instrument to apply lines to the parchment as a guide for the actual writing of the hand. Once the writing is finished, the parchments are then sewn together from a thread sourced from dried animal veins. The finished scroll is afterwards attached to wooden rollers. No instrument containing iron or steel may be used in the making of a Torah scroll because these materials are used to create objects designed for warfare.

There is a special type of lettering that is used to write the Torah, the tefillin and the mezuzah. While the writing looks like a form of Hebrew block letters, certain letters in this style are embelished with crowns, called tagin

The Scribe proceeds to prepare the parchment by scratching 43 horizontal lines on it and two vertical lines at each end. This allows for a standard 42 lines of writing. Each sheet of parchment contains three to eight columns of writing space available while certain letters might be stretched  within a column to justify the left margin.

It is within this intricate tradition that the Witch of Endor was able to solicit a channel that established her confidential communication with Lucifer the Devil. The details of these fatal encounters with the Demons (in the major context of the Faith) were lesser known until today, but it was wildly believed that the pagans were able to secure records of the vague circumstances surrounding the mystery of the practice of the Occult engaged by the said Witch of Endor.

There were enough credible evidence to believe, however, that Satan was, in fact, competently convinced that the Witch was a powerful medium, especially since she was able to successfully disturb the prophet Samuel to be spoken to for guidance during the military threat posed by the Philistine army against the Kingdom of Israel. It was widely believed through the narrative passed on by the account of several generational legends revealed that Lucifer, disguised as a high ranking army commander of the Philistines, was able to convince the Witch of Endor to create for him an identical scroll similar to what the Jewish tradition prescribes, but only in the exact opposite manner.

Lucifer the Devil called his version of "God's Scroll" as the "Penn," which was held by many futurist scholars to be a corroboration of the prophecy that a similar name would be used in the modern instrument of writing, triumphantly gazing consciously into the future of writing instruments. For the first time in forever, Satan was able to travel into the certainty of the future with the help of an innocent and early means of "undisciplined" form of sorcery, through the exploitation of the complex methods used in compliance to this holy Judaic tradition.
