Chapter Nine: An Auror's Meeting

The Seer discreetly entered the Leaky Cauldron from the busy streets of Diagon Alley, and then looked around the occupied tables at the pub searching for someone. But when he was certain that he arrived first ahead of the scheduled meeting, he took the farthest table to the left, sat quietly, and asked to be served with Butterbeer.

Not long after his first sip of the drink (the taste of the beverage has never changed to his liking), the Auror he had scheduled to have a meeting with finally arrived, cautiously walking through the doors of the Leaky Cauldron. The Auror searched the premises with his pair of eyes, and then saw him seated almost instantly.

The Auror quickly proceeded to the farthest table he was occupying, offered to shook hands, and afterwards took the chair opposite to the anxious Seer. They have exchanged cordial gteetings, and formally introduced themselves to one another.

"What do you know about this particular prophecy?" the Auror asked immediately, getting right down to business with no moment to waste. "It was as if the faulty nature of its wording is the main reason why the muggles are struggling to contain the murderous activity of this serial killer currently unfolding somewhere within the streets of Manchester, and extending all the way to the north."

The Seer took another sip of his drink, fearfully looked around as if searching for someone sinister and evil that could hear what he needed to say, and then nodded his assent to the Auror. "There are powerful Wizards who are watching everything. They have first hand details in this regard."

"And do you have any relevant information about these powerful Wizards?" the Auror inquired further of the details offered. "What is their direct connection to this faulty prophecy, if you have sufficient knowledge of the matter?"

"A lot, actually. They have clearly said that they are investigating something important. 'They have been looking around; lurking in utter madness,' if I may borrow their words. At first, I saw no harm in helping them with all of their questions relating to the Hall of Prophecy, but now I am most certainly regretful and sensing serious danger. They are dangerously meddling with Muggle affairs as far as I could tell, and it risks the exposure of the wizardkind we have been trying all these years to protect."

The Auror frowned, confused on the matter of reply and not too sure if he was following along correctly. "Are you implying that the Muggle killer is under the influence of the Imperius Curse? Are these powerful Wizards responsible for many innocent deaths by using the unforgivable curse?"

The Seer's head gesture indicated a firm no to the question. "But they are very responsible for this faulty prophecy," he quickly added.

The Auror seems to already know what is actually happening, but as a student of magic who did not enjoy the subject of Divination, he had to ask this question.

"Is the prophecy being changed? Is that possible under current regulations?"

"Yes, it is. And there is extreme Dark Arts involved in the process. This is a dangerous territory that these so called investigators are usurping carelessly. Someone must stop them, and use necessary force of Magical Law Enforcement if warranted, so I chose to be reporting to you today."

"Of course that is an option. Do you have initial information about the whereabouts of these powerful Wizards? Who are they and where they are from?"

This time, the Seer shook his head vigorously. "I only managed to know them from an anonymous transaction we had back at Hogsmeade two years ago. I was just visiting Hogwarts School at that time when they approached me on that cold wintry day. They were asking for the complete details of this particular prophecy that they have taken officially from the Department of Mysteries of the Ministry of Magic. They were very good payers (I suspect that they were working for the affluent kind) so I vividly remember the details of this prophetic record. And now it was unfolding quite . . . oddly, as far I can remember reading it."

"Is there anything else that you can tell me? What is their work affiliation, if you would know?" the Auror's quill is magically taking notes.

"I do not know for certain, and I cannot confirm anything, but I remember one of them saying that they were working lucrative jobs in a Private Enterprise."
